Headband Magnifier FAQ’s
Glass vs Acrylic lens which is better for my Headband Magnifier ?
Acrylic Lenses will generally provide a better image quality, however if the headband magnifier is to be used around acids for metal grinding or abrasives, glass is recommended because of its scratch resistance.
Headband Magnifier with light or without ?
If you have a vision issue a light is recommended as the light will usually provide better vision and contrast which will make the item and area easier to see.
Which Magnification is best for my Headband Magnifier ?
With magnification you will have a focal length or working distance which will mean that the further est distance at which the area will be in focus. We will list the headband magnifier lens magnification and focal lengths, 1.5x=Focal length will be 20″ and less, 2x=Focal length will be 10″ and less, 2.5x=Focal length will be 8″ and less, 3.5x=Focal length will be 4″ and less.
Are headband Magnifiers lightweight and comfortable ?
Headband Magnifiers and all head mounted magnifiers are designed to be comfortable, because of this they are designed to light weight, this means they must be treated with gentle care in order to maximize their useful lifespan.
Can Headband Magnifiers be worn with prescription eyeglasses ?
Yes however the focal length/working distance of the lenses will vary due to the eye condition and or RX of the prescription lens. It will most likely make the focal length to closer then it would with someone with normal 20/20 vision.

There are some optical (physics) rules that constrain magnification for headband magnifiers
- Is the inverse relationship between lens size and lens power. As lens power goes up lens size and field of view go down.
- Also as magnification goes up, focal length (working distance) goes down (gets shorter). Because of this once magnification goes beyond 3.5 the focal length gets so short that its impossible to have binocular vision (meaning seeing the sample spot with both eyes). Because of this maximum magnification for headband magnifiers is 3.5x. A complex lens structure like a medical dental loupe can extend the focal length , however they are much more expensive and have a very reduced field of view.
- As Magnification goes up field of view goes down. This means that the area being magnified ( in view) will get smaller as magnification goes up, and gets larger as magnification goes down.
- As Magnification goes up depth of field meaning the close/far distance to which the viewed item or area is in focus will become much more narrow, and as magnification goes up it will require a more steady head distance to keep the item in focus.
